Five years ago, the four empires bordering Burgania went to war. They did so over who had ownership of the sun. Although there was no rational prize to be claimed in this conflict, the fighting was bloody and prolonged. It ended when there were no soldiers left. When most fields had been chewed to mud and barbed wire. When the last reserves---down to eating bootleather---stormed the homes of their generals, ripped the well-fed relics from their armchairs, and burned them alive in the parade yard.

And then everyone went home.

They went home to empty bellies, a ruined countryside, and abandoned war machinery over every hill.

And, as people do, they adapted to this.

The past five years have been hard, but now wheat covers once bare fields and the scars of the land are beginning to recede into the skin of nature. The old war machines---called tranktors---are still everywhere, but they have been refitted with plows, threshing arms, and cargo beds. They carry goods between villages. They help with the rebuilding.

Leadbellies is a 30 page tactical merchant mech TTRPG.

It uses d6s, a chess board, and plays like red rover.

This game is amazing!

I got community copies of this and its expansions. I decided to give 30 euro because of how good the setting and the writing are. The mix of pastoral beauty and post-war trauma is absolutely fantastic and unique in the TTRPG landscape. The systems, especially with the expansions, seem to be incredibly fun and intuitive, with a lot of variety in individual scenarios.

I like that the status of relationships is also tracked and can be spent to avoid crashes. It makes sense from a narrative standpoint.

My advice to anyone reading this: get a copy of both the base game and the other modules. They flesh out the world and add a lot of cool moving parts, including dungeon delving.

I haven't run it yet, but hopefully I will soon, because after reading everything in one sitting I'm already in love with Leadbellies!

Whoah?!! Thank you very much for the support. I'm glad the game resonated. It's been a lot of fun to work on, and it's a setting I want to return to soon (I've got a few big projects in the queue, but I'm aiming for after those.)

That's awesome. Can't wait to see what you cook. I might come up with some content too and send it your way. 🙂

Heck yeah! I'd love to see it!
