The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, and they have been that way for as long as anyone can remember.
Generations of your people have lived in the shadow of the forest, and of the wonders and fears that sleep within its boundaries.
The woods has never been mapped. It defies fully the contours of physical space, stretching as far as it chooses to lie alongside kingdoms thousands of miles away, or dwindling to just a single grove in a mountain clearing.
It is as vast as dreaming, and as small as the light in the eyes of a dying rabbit.
And within a few days' time, you will kill it.
After all, this is what you have sworn.
