Heaven has a single job: the regulation of the flow of souls into and out of this world.

If a soul does not flow from life to afterlife, from afterlife to rebirth, it stagnates and becomes foul. In pain from this neglect and fear, it grows monstrous and manifests as a Shell.

Long ago, Heaven would send its bureaucrats down to earth to sweep up these Shells and issue them back into the cycle of reincarnation.

But that age is over. Heaven is rife with petty internal struggles. And Shells have grown numerous.

You are an average person. Perhaps you are sensitive to spiritual energy, or perhaps your inquisitive nature has brought you in contact with the secret nature of the world.

Either way, you have learned to see Shells, and the soul inside you has reacted to them by manifesting physically.

As a weapon.

If Heaven won't do their job, then it's up to you.

REAPpEaR is a 26 page TTRPG about about regular people returning spirits to the cycle of reincarnation because heaven won't.

It is tonally influenced by Bleach, although I haven't actually seen much Bleach and so it's probably more accurate to say it's influenced by what I think Bleach might be.

You are the Kate Bush of ttrpg! (she hadn't read a letter of Wuthering Heights when she wrote the eponymous song, she'd only seen bits of a BBC TV adaptation.)

I will absolutely accept being the Kate Bush of TTRPGs!

(although I think this means I also need to write a frequently misinterpreted banger)

I am assuming you're already wearing leotards and move around through the medium of interpretive dance.

Not until now, but life's about to get much more interesting for the people who have to live with me.

Hi! Tracing the myth back before Bleach. It sounds like a renewal of a traditional view. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YuYu_Hakusho Forgive my nerding out (or simply delete this comment)

It's all good!

The concept of a divine bureaucracy shows up in a variety of modern sources, including Bleach, YuYu Hakusho, DBZ, and also in religion and mythology.

Likewise with the concept of attendant gods who keep reincarnation running smoothly.

I don't have a strong background in any of this, but I'm happy if it made the setting interesting!

Thank you.It seems Bleach is a hot topic. ;) That mustn’t deviate our attention away from the game. Episodic adventures are easy to picture and create, Monster of the week style. The meat of the game seems to be in local soul <-> hp conversions presented as tactical choices. This one seems less narrative and more JRPG (/videogame) than most of your previous games. Strength to you!

Thank you!
