It is herbivorous, has a low basal metabolic rate, and can live for up to a hundred years.

It has soft feathers, delicate whiskers, and an odd, bobbling gait, and it often sees humans as a curiosity.

You are not a kakapo. You simply live in a town of them. They run the stores, the post office, and the barber shop all at slow, owl-parrot speeds.

It is safe here---it has to be, as a single stray housecat could annihilate the town's population in a week---but there's only just enough to get by.
