Dannika adjusted her headlamp and peered into the gap in the coral, playing the light over its tangle, searching for movement amongst the brachiation.

A brightly colored body, no larger than her fist, jetted across her field of view. With a single practiced swing she netted it, then transferred it to her dive bag. Other forms jetted and struggled within.

Ensuring the dive bag was secure, she checked her O2 gauge and nodded. It was time to return to the surface. This had been a good harvest. These samples would ensure a better catalog of the local species, and might even serve as leverage for her conservation efforts.

Which were essential, because these days every shrimp was endangered. Every shrimp was a resource. Every shrimp was poised to be turned into fodder for a---

The dive signal was clear, but just to be sure the shape swimming in front of her signed again. DUEL.

She could narrowly make out the Crangon Corp logo on the mercenary’s wetsuit as he opened his own dive bag and released a tiger prawn in attack position.
